Tiua

History

Tiua (pronounced tee-ua, meaning “to move with the wind”) is a Fountaine Pajot Marquises 53 Catamaran. She was built in 1992 and spent her first years in the Caribbean – nine of which were on land. In 2008, the previous owners sailed Tiua from the Caribbean specifically for charter operation on Lake Rotoiti. Here, she helped visitors explore the beautiful bays, caves and thermal pools of this sparkling Rotorua lake until Taupo Sailing Adventures acquired her in 2023.

Renovation

Tiua enjoyed an extensive refit in 2008 after arriving in New Zealand. Upgrades included new Yanmar engines and gearboxes, a re-modelling of the coach roof and all new paint. Stylish stainless framework allows the main sail sheet track and cars to be elevated to roof level for a safer deck area around the cockpit.

Tiua boasts three double well illuminated ensuite cabins and one cabin/work room, with the galley on the starboard side and day head port side. The main saloon is spacious and has been re-furbished with native NZ timber tables and panelling. The covered cockpit has a custom hard top with siding roof panels and new roll down clears, ideal for any-weather entertaining. The large main cockpit table folds together to comfortably seat 10 for entertaining and dining.
